Staff Software Engineer Backend

You will lead complex backend initiatives from ambiguous problem definition through architecture, implementation, and production. You will build systems for AI-driven workflows, guide technical direction, partner with product and design, establish effective engineering patterns, and own testing, deployment, observability, reliability, and production operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex technical projects from problem definition through production
• Architect and build backend systems for AI-driven workflows
• Drive technical direction for scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems
• Turn ambiguous problems into clear plans and drive execution
• Build new systems and evolve existing architecture
• Establish engineering patterns and abstractions
• Partner with product and design on solutions and tradeoffs
• Provide technical leadership through architecture, code reviews, and mentorship
• Own testing, deployment, observability, reliability, and production operations

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience building and operating backend systems
• Expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, algorithms, and system design
• Experience leading large, complex technical projects
• Experience taking products or systems from 0 to 1
• Experience designing scalable, reliable, high-performance production systems
• Strong communication and technical decision-making skills
