Senior Staff DevOps Engineer, Tech Lead Manager
Description
At Sonatus, we’re driving the transformation to AI-enabled software-defined vehicles. Traditional automotive software methods can’t keep pace with consumer expectations shaped by the mobile industry—where features evolve rapidly, update seamlessly, and improve continuously. That’s why leading OEMs trust Sonatus to accelerate this shift. Our technology is already in production across more than 9 million vehicles on the road today and rapidly expanding.
Headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, with 250+ employees worldwide, Sonatus combines the agility of a fast-growing company with the scale and impact of an established partner. Backed by strong funding and proven by global deployment, we’re solving some of the most interesting and complex challenges in the industry. Join us and help redefine what’s possible as we shape the future of mobility.
The Role
Our Korea engineering site delivers critical products to major automotive OEMs. It generates 30% of company revenue. It runs its own build infrastructure, lab hardware, and test environments, and these must run reliably on-premises.
We are seeking a Senior Staff DevOps Engineer to be the Tech Lead Manager for the Korea DevOps team. You will report to the Senior Director of DevOps in the USA. Together you will set the direction for the team and drive it forward.
This is a lead role with two parts:
- Tech lead. You set the technical direction for Korea infrastructure and CI/CD. You review the team's work, sequence the sprint, unblock people, and stay hands-on where it matters most.
- Manager. You run 1:1s, give feedback, grow your people, and help us hire. You build a team that people trust and want to stay on.
You will also be the voice of Korea on the global DevX team (Sunnyvale, Dublin). You bring Korea's needs to the table and bring global standards back to Korea.
Today, the Korea infrastructure works but is configured by hand. Jenkins controllers and agents are set up manually. Storage replication is undocumented. Release automation lives in large monolithic scripts. You will lead the team as it turns this into a codified, observable, maintainable platform. You will keep the team's existing workflows and knowledge intact while you do it.
What You'll Own
The team. Lead and manage the Korea DevOps engineers. Set priorities with the Senior Director of DevOps. Run sprint planning, 1:1s, and career growth. Help hire the next engineers. Spread knowledge so no system depends on one person.
On-premises build infrastructure. Own the Korea Jenkins controller and physical build agents. Plan capacity and keep the bare-metal servers that produce ECU firmware builds healthy. Use AWS overflow capacity when on-prem resources run short.
Lab infrastructure and hardware integration. Own the link between CI/CD pipelines and physical test hardware (ECUs, evaluation boards). Support board provisioning and health monitoring. Work with QA engineers to keep test environments reliable and repeatable.
Storage and replication. Bring up and run Pure Storage (FlashArray) for build workspaces, artifact caching, and test output. Own the NFS layer and the replication between Korea, Sunnyvale, and Dublin. Document and stabilize storage that today depends on one person.
Infrastructure as Code migration. Lead the move from manual server setup to code. Use Terraform for provisioning and Ansible for configuration. Korea has no IaC today. You will design the target state and guide the team to it without breaking active builds.
Cloud and hybrid operations. Guide how Korea uses cloud (AWS preferred) next to on-prem: overflow builds, site-to-site links, access, and cost.
CI/CD pipeline support. Maintain and improve the Korea release pipelines (Jenkins shared libraries, Groovy release workflows). Work with the global CI/CD team on consolidation and standards. Make sure Korea-specific build and release needs are met.
Monitoring and observability. Deploy monitoring (Nagios, Prometheus/Grafana, or equivalent) for all Korea on-prem infrastructure: build servers, storage, network gear, and lab hardware. Replace "someone notices it's broken" with proactive alerts and dashboards.
Datacenter operations. Own the physical Korea server room. Work with facilities on power and cooling. Manage rack layouts. Plan capacity for new hardware.
What You Bring
Requirements
- 15+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles, with real time on on-premises and bare-metal infrastructure, not only cloud-native work.
- Leadership experience. You have led engineers as a tech lead or manager. You can set direction, give honest feedback, and grow people. You build trust with a team.
- Cloud operations. Working experience running systems in a public cloud (AWS preferred), and connecting them to on-prem environments.
- Linux systems administration. You debug production servers over SSH: networking, storage, process management, systemd, log analysis.
- On-premises infrastructure. Hands-on work with physical servers, racks, storage arrays (NFS/SAN), and datacenter operations including power, cooling, and capacity planning.
- CI/CD platform administration. Experience running Jenkins at scale (distributed agents, shared libraries, credential management) or an equivalent enterprise CI/CD platform.
- Infrastructure as Code. Practical Terraform and Ansible (or equivalent). You have migrated environments from manual to codified. You did not only maintain existing IaC.
- Networking. Working knowledge of VLANs, DNS, VPN/site-to-site links, and how lab networks connect to cloud environments.
- Scripting and automation. Python and Bash. Comfortable in large Groovy codebases.
- Storage administration. Experience with enterprise storage (Pure Storage, NetApp, or similar), NFS, and backup and replication strategies.
- Korean and English. Professional fluency in both. Business runs in both languages, and you will work daily with teams in Korea and the USA.
Nice to Have
- Embedded build toolchains (Bazel, Yocto, CMake cross-compilation)
- Virtualization (VMware vSphere, KVM)
- Hardware-in-the-loop or automotive test infrastructure
- Security scanning integration (Coverity, BlackDuck, or similar SAST/SCA tools)
- Kubernetes in hybrid on-prem/cloud environments
- Experience leading a team across time zones
