Senior Backend Engineer L3 Payments

You will own critical payment flows from initiation through routing, settlement tracking, and reconciliation. You will build partner integrations, backend services, and dashboard features; design for failure; instrument money flows; contribute to regulated controls; mentor engineers; and participate in on-call incident response.

Responsibilities

• Own backend payment flows across API and dashboard surfaces
• Build partner integrations for new payment corridors
• Design payment systems for idempotency, retries, exactly-once effects, and graceful degradation
• Contribute to safeguarding and transaction-monitoring controls with audit trails
• Build payment tracking, status, and reporting features
• Instrument payment success rates, stuck payments, partner latency, and error rates
• Shape payment flows and API contracts with Product and senior engineers
• Mentor L1 and L2 engineers
• Participate in on-call and turn post-mortems into durable fixes

Requirements

• 5–7 years of production backend systems experience
• Payments or fintech experience on a live payment or money path
• Expertise in TypeScript and Node.js
• Experience designing and operating REST APIs
• Data modelling and PostgreSQL query skills
• Knowledge of idempotency, retries, partial failures, ordering, and duplicate handling
• Experience integrating external partner APIs
• Experience with queues, jobs, or workflow engines
• Experience writing automated backend and integration tests
• Working proficiency with React and Next.js or similar
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming and low-level design patterns
