Principal Observability Platform Engineer

Description
You will own the technical strategy and architecture for metrics, logs, traces, and alerting at scale. You will set platform standards, design ingestion and retention patterns, identify systemic gaps, improve incident learning, evaluate tooling, and mentor engineers. You will build and operate scalable observability systems using infrastructure as code.
Responsibilities
- Own observability strategy and architecture for metrics, logs, traces, and alerting
- Drive decisions on tooling, data models, ingestion, retention, and cardinality
- Design platforms that expose failures and enable fast diagnosis
- Partner with SRE, infrastructure, and AI/ML teams
- Define observability standards and patterns
- Mentor and technically develop observability engineers
- Lead incident postmortems and implement durable platform improvements
- Evaluate, introduce, and retire observability tooling
Requirements
- 8+ years in SRE, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or observability roles
- Experience operating observability infrastructure at scale
- Hands-on experience with observability tooling
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or similar
- Experience with Kubernetes at scale
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent
