Head of Safety

You will own end-to-end safety and compliance across content safety, user data, and platform transparency. You will improve moderation accuracy, automation, and cost efficiency; define safety metrics and dashboards; build and evaluate detection systems; assess risk and cost trade-offs; translate regulations into practical guidance; lead compliance product work; and develop the safety function.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end safety and compliance function across content safety, user data, and platform transparency
• Reduce manual moderation through improved automation, accuracy, and cost efficiency
• Define safety metrics and build dashboards for queue volume, review time, appeals, reversals, costs, and escalation latency
• Build and evaluate detection systems using test sets, precision, recall, and calibrated thresholds
• Run evaluations to measure the impact of changes to detection and review systems
• Assess the risk, cost, and alternatives for policies, tools, vendors, and review processes
• Track relevant regulations and translate them into actionable compliance guidance
• Maintain a current map of product compliance obligations, gaps, and remediation costs
• Drive product roadmap work toward automated, holistic compliance
• Develop safety operations teammates and hire when justified
• Define internal safety principles and external user-safety positioning
• Bring research on risk exposure to leadership for deliberate safety investment decisions

Requirements

• Experience leading trust and safety, content policy, or product compliance at a consumer platform
• Experience with user-generated content at scale
• Track record of automating manual review through classifiers, tooling, vendor systems, or policy design
• SQL
• Python
• Ability to build evaluation harnesses and script workflows
• Knowledge of classifier and LLM-based review capabilities and failure modes
• Ability to evaluate vendor claims
• Knowledge of GDPR, the EU Digital Services Act, UK online safety legislation, investigatory powers legislation, cyberbullying rules, and minor-protection rules
