Founding Data Engineer

You will establish the data foundation by defining business entities and metrics, building SQL and dbt models, and owning ingestion pipelines. You will make architecture decisions, create self-service analytics, improve data reliability and governance, and partner on usage data and event schemas.

Responsibilities

• Define business entities, metrics, and shared semantics
• Design and build core data models using SQL and dbt
• Build and own ingestion pipelines from product events, CRM, and business systems
• Make storage, orchestration, and transformation architecture decisions
• Build self-service analytics, semantic models, and trusted metrics
• Partner on usage data and event schemas
• Maintain data governance, reliability, quality, access controls, lineage, monitoring, and debugging
• Use AI to accelerate data foundation development

Requirements

• SQL
• dbt
• Experience with a cloud warehouse such as Snowflake
• Experience with an orchestrator such as Dagster or Airflow
• Ability to write and maintain production code
• Data modeling
• Schema evolution
• Data contracts
• Data lineage
• Debugging
• Ability to work directly with executives and functional leaders
• Ability to operate as the only data hire
