Design Engineer

You will own and maintain the Writer Design System, build production-quality UI components and features, and improve front-end craft. You will develop design-system primitives, keep Figma, documentation, and Storybook aligned, research design-to-code workflows, and work with design, product, and engineering partners to improve adoption and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own, maintain, and optimize the Writer Design System for humans and AI agents
• Design and build production-quality UI components and features
• Ship polished design-led UI work, including micro-interactions and brand moments
• Architect design-system primitives and extend core components
• Keep Figma, documentation, examples, and Storybook libraries aligned
• Maintain accessibility, motion, consistency, and quality standards
• Research design-to-code tools and practices
• Partner with designers, product managers, and engineering leads to improve design-system adoption

Requirements

• 4–8+ years building production frontends with TypeScript and React
• Animation principles, including easing, choreography, anticipation, follow-through, interruptibility, and perceived performance
• Expert Figma skills, including auto-layout, variants, variables, and code connect
• Experience with Framer Motion, GSAP, and Lottie
• Portfolio, side projects, GitHub, or production work demonstrating systems-level work
• Experience driving design-system or shared-platform adoption
• Experience with AI product surfaces, including tool-call UIs, streaming responses, agent state, and dynamic UI rendering
