Backend Engineer Card Issuing

You will own a core production domain for card issuing and set its technical direction. You will design resilient money-moving systems, build and scale RESTful microservices, lead payment integrations, make architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and automate regulated engineering and operational workflows with AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and write RFCs for high-availability money-moving systems
• Own a core production domain while balancing features, technical debt, and reliability
• Build and scale RESTful microservices with idempotency, reconciliation correctness, and PCI DSS security
• Drive integrations with card networks, payment processors, and third-party providers
• Partner with Product, QA, and Ops to deliver ambiguous work
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
• Use AI tools and agents to automate engineering and operational workflows safely

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Track record of designing, launching, and operating high-scale or financial production systems
• Expert-level Golang and microservices experience
• Modern cloud infrastructure experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD
• Advanced MariaDB or MySQL skills, including query optimization, transactions, locking, and live schema migrations
• Debugging skills, technical judgment, and technical writing ability
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Cursor
• Payments, card issuing, settlement, network integration, ISO 8583, or PCI DSS experience is a plus
